Tacho Universal Information Page
The tacho universal series of programmer is very old and was first producted in 1998
It was the best programmer in the world in the year 2006.
In fact it is the most sold programmer WORLDWIDE to date.
This hardware configuration was sold under names and brands although the internal hardware was the same.
This programmer was also updated serveral times.
Hardware containing the same layout was used for several programmer names (although not all identical).

- Tacho Universal (EFI)
- DIGI DIS (Distools)
- Digi Consult (YHT)
- Dashcoder (updated)
- Super Tacho (2009 ***BAD***)
The flashes for the circuit boards were sold several times.
The cases were made in different colors.
This made sense. The high end versions of the hardware with all adapters sold for $24,000USD in 2006.
The units required unlocking after a certain number of vehicle (normally 50).
The complete flash and design was sold many times in 2008.
However making the unit was very difficult.
There were many security features that caused units to lock up and not sync.
These problems happened on original units sold for over $20K and was an even bigger problem for the new makers.
Programmers were sold for refashing the IC's.
Eventually a final version of 2008.1 software was sold (sw Jan 24, 2008).
It did not have the LOCKING or SYNC Problems anymore with unlimited cars.
A few last changes were made to the software however never released.
In the year 2010 a final version JULY 2008 (2008.7) software was sold.
Super Tacho 2009/2010 never became popular since it failed and still fails constantly.
So what is now available and what is the difference???
Over 30 companys in China now make different parts for TU2008 (Tacho Universal)
For example most plastic case molds are made in the same factory
The PCB inside the handheld has over 12 board shops with it in production.
Many websites have the TU2008.7 however they are not all the same.
Look at the packaing list and all the parts.

These parts fail easily. They always have and always will. Better units fail less.
Q: There are new 2010/2011 versions available that are complete sets now in 2011 selling at $130USD.
A: They are 2008.7 or 2008.1 software and the circuit boards inside say 2010 or 2011. They are low quality and have an extremely high failure rate. It is impossible to make it for that price and have any kind of quality.
Q: What version does resettools sell.
The version in stock is the most reliable version currently avaialble with 2008.7 software.
Q: Can I buy an original unit?
A: There is no such thing. This is an obsolete programmer. The best quality one is YHT DIGI Consult.
Q: Can I get updates for Tacho Universal?
A: No, it is unlikely. The original designs were sold. The people making it now did not develop it.
Q: Dashcoder gets updates why doesn't Tacho Universal (TU2008)
A: Dashcoder is a updated newer and better product. It is not the same. The manufacturer sells about $15,000USD.
Q: What is the latest Version of Tacho Universal?
A: 2008.7 (july 2008) units saying 2009/2010/2011 on the PCB have the same coverage.
Q: What if the car is not covered, can I program it.
A: YES you can program the dash on any EEPROM Type like 93C46, 93C56, 93C66, 93C76, 93C86, etc but the corrections are not in the handheld.
- Find a car in the programmer with the same eeprom type.
- Read as the other car.
- Transfer the saved file from your handheld to your PC using TachoDumpSetup PC Transfer Software
- Modify the file on your PC (knowledge is needed or pc softs for corrections)
- Transfer the modified file back to your handheld
- Write the modified file to the chip.
Q: I want a really good updateable programmer what do you have?
A: Check Smelecom products. They are updateable and offer additional functions like key programming.
